Mike Comments on Legal Aid Cuts Concern

Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) and Hove Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) have expressed their concerns over the impact that proposed changes to the Legal Aid system will have on vulnerable people in the City. BHT and Hove CAB risk losing £500,000 per annum if the proposals are implemented.

Speaking in a debate on the issue in the House of Commons, Mike said, “Brighton and Hove is expecting a reduction of 80% in housing and homelessness cases down to only 280 per year. Although we all agree that we should make some cuts, I believe we need to monitor that level of reduction carefully”.

The consultation on the level of cuts to the Legal Aid system will end in February 2011.
