Mike has added his support to a Government efficiency drive that is proving to be even more successful than predicted.
Minister for the Cabinet Office, the Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, has announced that the Government’s ruthless approach to eradicating wasteful spending across Whitehall enabled the Government to save over £5.5 billion – even higher than forecast – for the taxpayer last year. These new savings are in addition to the unprecedented £3.75 billion saved during 2010/11. For more details of the savings, click here.
Commenting, Mike said: “My colleagues and I were elected on our pledge to tackle the terrific deficit and debt that our country is facing. To do this, one of the most important tasks has been to address the wasteful spending – running into billions of pounds – across Whitehall. It is only right that these spending controls will be in place permanently and rolled out across Government.”
