Mike Weatherley, Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has congratulated the organisers of this year’s Pride festival event for the way in which they have prepared for this weekend’s big event.
Brighton & Hove Pride is a fantastic celebration of LGBT people and their rights as citizens. Following his participation with a large group of his conservative colleagues last year in the parade, Mike wrote to the Prime Minister about introducing same-sex marriage. He was delighted when a few months later David Cameron announced that the Government supported civil same-sex marriage and would push to introduce it before the next General Election.
Mike added: “Everyone involved in organising the festival this year deserves special recognition. I know that it’s a massive task to pull off, but certainly worth it given how important Pride is to our welcoming city. This year we should all be proud of the fact that our Government is pressing ahead with equal civil marriage for same-sex couples. I hope that everyone who is in the city for the festival has a good time. Fingers crossed the weather will hold out.”
