Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed Government action to pump £2.2 million into council housing improvement works in Brighton & Hove.
Upon taking office, Ministers inherited a backlog of works on council homes that required £3.2 billion investment to bring local authority housing up to the Decent Homes standard. Mike is encouraged that the Department for Communities & Local Government is well on target to meet the Government’s aim of making 127,000 council homes decent by 2014-15.
Commenting, Mike said: “This is a welcome announcement that I fully support. We have a duty to house the most vulnerable in society and it is only right that this is done to an acceptable standard. I trust that this investment will be spent wisely on the homes that need it most.”
