Emergency Life Support Skills In Schools

Mike Weatherley has signed EDM1789. Motion reads: "That this House supports the British Heart Foundation and the Resuscitation Council UK's campaign to make learning emergency life support skills a mandatory part of the national curriculum; notes that the teaching of such skills is backed by 70 per cent. of parents, 78 per cent. of children and 86 per cent. of teachers; and calls on the Government to take this support into consideration as part of itsNational Curriculum Review."
Community Pubs Month 2012

Mike Weatherley has signed EDM2912. Motion reads: "That this House welcomes the introduction by the Campaign for Real Ale of the first Community Pubs Month in April 2012 in which over 5,000 pubs are participating; notes that the purpose of this month of celebration of pubs is to increase footfall in local pubs, increase the awareness of pubs as invaluable community assets and encourage licensees to organise and promote events to attract further trade; further notes that pubs are the original social network and vitally important to British culture; believes that pubs are in need of this extra support as 16 pubs close every week; and so encourages hon. Members to support their local community pubs in April 2012."
Vision For Micro Chp

Mike Weatherley has seconded EDM2905. Motion reads: "That this House recognises the important role of micro combined heat and power (micro CHP) in reducing fuel bills and emissions of carbon dioxide and in helping to deal with fuel poverty; welcomes the Micro CHP Vision: 1 million by 2020 document drawn up by the nine leading companies that develop micro CHP technology; further welcomes the industry's response to the two Government consultations contained in that document; and hopes that the Government will accept these suggestions."
Burma

Mike Weatherley has signed EDM2710. Motion reads: "That this House welcomes the steps taken by President Thein Sein to release some political prisoners, enter into ceasefire negotiations with armed ethnic groups and allow more political space in Burma; further welcomes the visit to Burma by the Foreign Secretary and his meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; expresses continued support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma in their ongoing efforts to secure human rights and democratic reform; notes with concern that hundreds of political prisoners remain in Burma's jails, and that there has been an increase in human rights abuses in ethnic states; further notes that reforms made so far have mostly not been enshrined in law and no constitutional changes have been made; believes that international pressure has played an important role in encouraging reforms so far; and calls on the Government to ensure that EU sanctions on Burma are not relaxed prematurely before substantially more political prisoners are released, conflict isended and there is an inclusive dialogue process to secure further and irreversible reform."
Free Range Kids Campaign

Motion reads: "That this House welcomes the launch of the Sustrans Free Range Kids campaign; calls on the Government to reverse the decline in the proportion of children walking and cycling to school; acknowledges the barriers which prevent children from being able to walk, cycle and play outside as a result of safety concerns; and urges Ministers across transport, health, environment and education briefs to work in a joined-up way to inspire, encourage and support local authorities to invest consistently and coherently over the next 10 years to create safe and pleasant environments for walking and cycling which will not only benefit the health of children but alsothe environment and communities."
Vitamin D

Mike Weatherley has signed EDM2763. Motion reads: "That this House notes and approves the position of the Chief Medical Officers of the UK in highlighting population groups who are at risk of vitamin D deficiency; supports their work in relation to educating and informing medical professionals on the importance of vitamin D in public health for certain population groups; furthersupports their call for more widespread and consistent advice from all health professionals on the use of supplementation to ensure sufficiency; welcomes their reminder that primary care trusts, local health trusts and health boards have a statutory responsibility to make healthy start vitamins available locally to all women and children; further notes the concerns raised by health professionals, the voluntary sector and industry that the Government's Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) will not be reporting on appropriate levels for supplementation for at least another two to three years; and callson the Government to request a more speedy conclusion to SACN's work to enable health professionals to access up-to-date guidance on dosage for all patients, including the at-risk population and to facilitate industry manufacture of appropriate products for the purpose of reducing vitamin D deficiency in the UK."
London's Ghost Stations

Motion reads: "That this House congratulates the Old London Underground Company on its efforts in opening up London's ghost stations and deep level shelters to the public as a viable enterprise following HM Treasury's Wider Markets Initiative; recognises that the Old London Underground Company requests assistance from Transport for London to include international press in the site visit forhon. Membersand Lords to visit a ghost station site; and supports Ajit Chambers with the next stage of this exciting opportunity for outside investment in the leisure and tourism sector."

Mike Weatherley has signed EDM2720. Motion reads: "That this House notes the proposals in the consultation on the Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property which relate to orphan works, extended collective licensing models and the regulation of licensing bodies; is concerned that the latest options include amendments to the current framework for licensing copyright works in the education sector not covered by the original review; believes that these proposals will undermine the principle that copyright should give access to the consumer while ensuring authors or creators are rewarded for their endeavours, and that the erosion of these licensing schemes would adversely affect the income of writers, undermine the incentives for copyright holders and lead to a decline in the breadth and quality of material available to schools, colleges and universities; recalls that Charles Dickens was a prolific and successful writer and a passionate advocate of the principle of copyright; and calls on the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, in this year of the bicentenary of Dickens' birth, to ensure that the rights of all the UK's creative industries are properly protected."
Removal Of Violent Ex-Partners From Joint Tenancies

Motion reads: "That this House believes convicted perpetrators of domestic violence should be automatically removed from any joint tenancy they share with an ex-partner who was a victim of their crime; notes that perpetrators of domestic violence currently have the right of appeal against their removal from a joint tenancy; further believes that this prolongs the time that a violent ex can gain access to the property leaving victims of domestic violence and their families vulnerable and fearful; and calls on the Government to review the law concerning the removal of violent ex-partners from joint tenancies."
Beer Duty Escalator (No. 2)

Mike Weatherley has seconded EDM2785. Motion reads: "That this House notes that beer and pubs contribute 21 billion to UK GDP and supports almost one million jobs, almost half of them for 16 to 24 year olds; acknowledges that brewing is one of British manufacturing's success stories; believes that 2012, as a year of national celebrations, is the perfect time to recognise the economic and social value of great British beer and the pub industry; and so urges the Government to listen to consumer and industry groups, including the British Beer and Pub Association, the Society of Independent Brewers and the Campaign for Real Ale, who have united to call on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to support Britain's beer and pub sector by suspending the beer duty escalator to help reduce pub closures, create 5,000 additional jobs and ensure pub going remains an affordable leisure activity."
